They are divided into three states, Shamal Darfur (North Da
rfur), Janub Darfur (South Darfur), and
Gharab Darfur (West Darfur).Darfur is home to between forty and ninety tribes, Tribes
are composed of extended families, predominantly of one ethnic group. A tribe
may also include relatives of tribe members, visitors from neighboring
villages, guests, and Faki, teachers of the Koran. There is a strong sense of
community and kinship. A neighbor is considered to be a brother or a sister.
All of the children in a village play with one another.
